Tamil Nadu man claims ₹30-crore Thiruvonam Bumper lottery prize
A man from Tamil Nadu has claimed the ₹30-crore Thiruvonam Bumper lottery prize after losing his physical ticket. He provided a photograph of the ticket as proof, but lottery officials are currently investigating the authenticity of his claim.
Why it matters
The case highlights the legal and procedural challenges of verifying lottery wins when physical proof is missing, especially across state jurisdictions.
A man from Tamil Nadu has approached the Palakkad District Police Chief claiming that he is the winner of the ₹30-crore first prize in the State government’s Thiruvonam Bumper lottery.
Sadiq, a native of Tamil Nadu, said he bought the ticket from Palakkad Railway Junction but lost it at Sathyamangalam in Erode district. He has submitted a photograph of the ticket stored on his mobile phone along with his complaint.
Mr. Sadiq said he checked the number in the photograph after the lottery draw and found that it had won the first prize. He said he then realised that the original ticket was missing.
He claimed that he had tried to report the loss at the Sathyamangalam police station. However, the police directed him to approach the authorities in Keralam as it was a Keralam lottery and lottery sales were prohibited in Tamil Nadu.
