Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar, on Wednesday (June 10, 2026), withdrew a public interest litigation petition filed by him in 2023, challenging the constitution of a Fact Check Unit (FCU) by the then Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government under the leadership of Iyan Karthikeyan. First Division Bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan permitted him to withdraw the plea on the basis of the request made by his counsel on record K. Gowtham Kumar who said, the petitioner was not inclined to pursue the matter in view of the change in circumstances.
