Tamil Nadu government unveils ₹107-crore project for rabies control

The Tamil Nadu government, on Monday (August 24, 2026), unveiled a ₹107-crore project to create a rabies-free State.
Replying to the debate on the demands for grants for the Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply Department, School Education Minister Rajmohan, on behalf of the Chief Minister (who handles the subject), said the first phase of the project would be implemented in municipal corporations, municipalities, and town panchayats.
The government would purchase vehicles to transport street dogs after they are captured and implement animal birth control programme, and establish surgical centres and after-care centres, he said.
Besides, the government announced a multi-level parking facility at a cost of ₹40 crore in Kanniyakumari for the benefit of tourists.
