Tamil Nadu CM Vijay launches ‘Presence-less Registration’ of housing plots, apartments

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has introduced a 'Presence-less Registration' system for housing plots and apartments to increase transparency and efficiency. The digital-first process allows users to register property documents online using Aadhaar verification, with built-in security features like QR codes and dynamic color-coded endorsements.
Why it matters
This initiative represents a significant shift toward digital governance and the reduction of bureaucratic friction in real estate transactions.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday (August 17, 2026) launched compulsory ‘Presence-less Registration’ for the first-time registration of housing plots and apartments in multi-storeyed residential buildings.
A State government press release said the government had already introduced ‘anywhere registration’, allowing people to register their properties and documents without visiting the registrar’s office.
‘Presence-less Registration’, the government said, was aimed at improving efficiency and transparency in registration without visiting registrar offices.
As per the procedure, those who want to register should create a login ID and submit their documents online. The seller, buyer, and witnesses should upload their Aadhaar cards, which will be verified.
