A major disagreement over the theatrical-to-OTT release window has created fresh uncertainty in the Tamil film industry. The dispute began after the Tamil Nadu Film Distributors Federation and the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association reportedly pushed for new films to arrive on streaming platforms only after completing an eight-week theatrical run. Producers were asked to provide an assurance on this condition before their films could be screened in theatres. The proposal, however, faced strong opposition from the producer bodies, who argued that such a rule was not followed in the same manner across other South Indian film industries.Tamil film industry strike cancelledThe Tamil film industry has now received temporary relief after the proposed strike from September 1 was postponed.
