Tambaram Corporation Commissioner put on compulsory wait after tender ‘violation’

The State government has put the Tambaram Corporation Commissioner S. Balachandar on compulsory wait, after Arappor Iyakkam brought to the notice of the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, the gross violation in floating two tenders after the completion and inauguration of the work.
Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, in a circular issued on Tuesday, has replaced Mr. Balachandar with the Avadi Corporation Commissioner R. Saranya, who has been given full additional charge.
Welcoming the move, Jayaram Venkatesan, Convenor of Arappor Iyakkam, said the two tenders involved gross violations for more than ₹45 lakhs, and demanded criminal action to be initiated by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), along with a high-level departmental enquiry to prevent such tender manipulations in future.
