TACLOBAN CITY – A couple was killed in a fire that destroyed their house in Barangay 107, New Hope Village, Santa Elena District, this city, on Sunday, July 19. The victims were identified as Paeng, 32, barangay kagawad (councilor) of the village, and his wife, Abtik, 31. Initial investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze started at around 6 a.m. from an overheated air conditioner. The fire spread quickly as the house was made from light materials. The fire was placed under control at 6:30 a.m. Follow-up investigation is ongoing. The affected unit was part of a government housing in the barangay.
