T.N. to establish Tamil Nadu Mineral Resources Development Corporation Ltd, says Minister

The Tamil Nadu government is establishing a new Public Sector Undertaking called the Tamil Nadu Mineral Resources Development Corporation to manage mining operations and mineral sales. The initiative includes implementing digital monitoring systems, drone surveillance for illegal mining, and developing mining tourism.

Minister for Natural Resources T.K. Prabhu announced in the Assembly that the State government would establish Tamil Nadu Mineral Resources Development Corporation Limited, a new Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), under the Companies Act 2013.
Replying to the discussion on demand for grants for the Natural Resources Department, Dr. Prabhu said the new PSU would undertake mining operations, mineral extraction, quality enhancement, import, value addition, marketing and sale of minerals.
Mr. Prabhu also announced n integrated command and control centre for mineral management will be established with modern digital infrastructure to effectively monitor and manage on a real time basis all mineral-related processes from production to end use.
A monitoring unit using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and satellite technology will be established to identify areas where illegal mining activities are taking place using high-resolution satellite imagery obtained at regular intervals.
