Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu on Friday chaired a meeting to review preparedness and precautionary measures to be taken ahead of northeast monsoon in Villupuram district.

At the meeting held in Tindivanam, the Minister reviewed departmental preparedness in Tindivanam and Marakkanam taluks, particularly measures taken for disaster mitigation, early warning, rescue and relief operations. In Tindivanam taluk, 18 vulnerable locations have been identified, including 17 moderate-risk areas and one low-risk area.

According to the Minister, as many as 52 vulnerable locations, including eight high-risk, 21 moderate-risk and 23 low-risk locations, have been identified in Marakkanam taluk.

The Minister said that 10 multi-purpose shelters have been kept ready in coastal parts of Marakkanam taluk — Marakkanam, Ekkiyarkuppam, Manalvaikuppam, Anumanthaikuppam, Nochikuppam and Mudaliarkuppam.
