T.N. govt. yet to request Centre to shift airport site from Parandur, says Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation
The Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation stated that the Tamil Nadu government has not formally requested a site change for the proposed Parandur airport. The project remains in the planning phase with land acquisition currently paused by the state.

The Tamil Nadu government has yet to request the Central government to change the site of the proposed second airport for Chennai in Parandur, said Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in response to a question raised by DMK MP P. Wilson in the Rajya Sabha.
He said the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) granted in-principle approval to Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) in April 2025. In the application submitted by TIDCO in September, 2024, the estimated project cost for Phase I was nearly ₹10,500 crore, he said.
