Synology expands ActiveProtect with cloud recovery
Synology has updated its ActiveProtect data management software to include cloud-native recovery and support for additional platforms like Amazon EC2 and Azure. The update aims to streamline disaster recovery and improve security through upcoming AI-based anomaly detection.

Synology has launched ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 for its ActiveProtect data protection appliances, expanding the range of platforms the software can protect.
The release adds support for Amazon EC2, Azure VM, Proxmox VE, Nutanix AHV, and Google Workspace. It also introduces cross-platform recovery, allowing workloads to be backed up in one environment and restored in another.
The feature is intended to support both disaster recovery and workload migration across hybrid infrastructure, while helping organisations manage protection across more of their systems from a single platform.
Backup destination options have also expanded. ActiveProtect Vault now works with a broader range of Synology NAS models, and Azure Blob Storage has been added as a supported target for copy and tiering.
