Swimming restricted at Latvia’s Lake Saldus due to E. coli
Latvian health authorities have restricted swimming at Lake Saldus due to recurring E. coli contamination. Local officials are investigating potential sources, including unauthorized wastewater discharge and river runoff.

--> Latvia’s Health Inspectorate has introduced swimming restrictions in the recreation area at Lake Saldus. An additional water sample taken on August 31 once again showed elevated levels of microbiological pollution associated with Escherichia coli bacteria.
This is already the third case since the start of the current bathing season in which elevated levels of microbiological pollution have been detected in Lake Saldus. The restrictions were introduced based on the results of the latest water analysis.
