Swapo Old Guard preach compliance

Veteran Swapo party leaders in Namibia are calling for strict adherence to the party constitution and internal discipline ahead of the upcoming elective congress. They expressed concerns over recent electoral losses and the need to address internal 'slate politics' to maintain public confidence.
Why it matters
As the ruling party in Namibia, Swapo's internal stability and governance directly impact the nation's political landscape and policy direction.
With a little over a year before Swapo’s elective congress, an event that normally separates contenders from pretenders, where careers are made or reduced to ashes, veteran party leaders have called on the ruling party to strictly uphold its constitution.
They also called for the restoration of internal discipline and refocus on addressing the concerns of ordinary Namibians.
They warned that failure to do so could further erode public confidence. Swapo veteran politician and former Cabinet minister Jerry ‘Maudjuu’ Ekandjo said the party must use its recent electoral performance as a wake-up call.
