Why it matters
Explosive incidents in urban areas raise immediate security concerns and require thorough counter-terrorism and forensic investigations to protect public safety.
A mysterious blast, suspected to have been triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), at an under-construction building in Pulakeshinagar in East Bengaluru on Tuesday left two people injured.
The injured Allauddin, working at the building, from Assam, is said to have lost a finger in the explosion. Suraj, a security guard, from Uttar Pradesh, escaped with minor injuries. He is being questioned by the police.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh quoted the injured persons as saying that the blast was triggered after one of them pressed the button of a torch. However, there is no clarity as to whether the torch exploded or it was used as a trigger mechanism of an IED.
