A Bangladeshi national who had allegedly concealed his nationality and worked as a contract employee at the Ezhimala Naval Academy for nearly a year was taken into custody by the Navy authorities on Friday (September 18).

The detention of yet another Bangladeshi national in Kannur has raised questions over the verification mechanism for foreign nationals working in the district, particularly in view of the strategic importance of the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala.

According to the police, the man has been identified as Biplob Soren, 32, son of Anil Soren of Nabagram in Murshidabad, West Bengal. According to preliminary information, he had been working in the laundry section of the Naval Academy as a contract worker.
