NEWBERN, Tenn. (WBBJ) - A Newbern man has been arrested and charged in connection with the kidnapping and attempted rape of a child, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a release Thursday.
TBI agents say 30-year-old Steven Devonte Harris, of Newbern, was arrested Wednesday night.
TBI agents joined investigators from the Newbern Police Department, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and its task force members at the request of 29th Judicial District Attorney Danny Goodman to investigate a kidnapping that occurred early Wednesday morning in Newbern.
According to the affidavit, signed by TBI Special Agent Tyler Huelsing, an unidentified man removed an air conditioning unit from a bedroom window at an apartment in the 400 block of East Johnson Street, reached inside, and pulled a 10-year-old girl through the window while she was clutching her comforter.
