Supreme Court bans construction within 100 metres of Jojari River in Rajasthan
The Supreme Court of India has imposed a ban on all construction within 100 meters of the Jojari River in Rajasthan to combat severe industrial contamination. The court has also prohibited hazardous industries within 500 meters of the river and requested a comprehensive resolution plan from the state government.

A Supreme Court Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta has banned any construction or development within 100 metres of Jojari River in Rajasthan,hearing a suo motu case on Monday (August 24, 2026).
The court also prohibited hazardous industries within 500 metres of the river’s flow path. This is the latest in a series of orders passed by the court to protect the seasonal river, which has faced a barrage of contamination that has affected around two million lives in the water-starved State.
The Supreme Court on August 4, suggested that the Rajasthan government prepare a 20-point resolution plan to deal with the issue of contamination in the Jojari, Bandi and Luni rivers in the State.
