Former Minister and Karkala MLA V. Sunil Kumar on Wednesday, September 2, said the Congress high command, which has already reduced the dignity of a constitutional office to a mere party letterhead, has now turned the Speaker’s post into nothing short of a political appointment.

He was referring to Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker G.S. Patil meeting All India Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala in New Delhi on Tuesday to express his gratitude to the party for the new position. Mr. Surjewala had shared the pictures of Mr. Patil and Legislative Council Chairman Saleem Ahmed meeting the former at his Delhi residence on Tuesday.
