Summerlike warmth to give way to autumn chill this week

The UK is experiencing a transition from unseasonably warm weather to cooler, autumn-like conditions as a weather front moves across the country. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly by mid-week, falling to or below seasonal averages.

After an unseasonably warm start to Monday, afternoon highs are expected to peak at 23C in south-east England.
However, wet and blustery weather will move across some northern parts of the UK and as that sinks southwards later in the week it will introduce chillier air.
Maximum temperatures on Wednesday are expected to be around 11-16C, near or a little below the average for early October.
The week begins with south-westerly winds and mild air across the UK.
In southern England, the Midlands and East Anglia, any early mist and fog should lift to leave a mostly dry day with sunny spells.
