Sumitomo Chemical Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Tata Electronics to Explore Potential Collaboration on Semiconductor Materials in India

Sumitomo Chemical has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) with Tata Electronics Private Limited (“Tata Electronics”) to explore the possibility of collaborating to build a semiconductor supply chain in India. Under the MoU, Sumitomo Chemical will examine specific measures aimed at establishing a stable supply system for semiconductor materials, including the potential establishment of a semiconductor chemicals facility in India.

The Indian government is promoting the development of the semiconductor industry as a national strategic priority. Against this backdrop, Tata Electronics is advancing the construction of India’s first front-end semiconductor fabrication plant. As India’s markets for semiconductors and related materials are expected to grow, Sumitomo Chemical believes that this construction project being undertaken by Tata Electronics will help strengthen the foundation of the country’s semiconductor industry.
