Sugarcane farmers threaten agitation if FRP is not raised by October 10

The Karnataka Sugarcane Growers’ Association has threatened to launch a State-wide agitation if the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane is not increased by October 10, 2026.

Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Wednesday, Association President Kurubur Shanthakumar said a delegation of the office bearers of the Association met Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi at his office in New Delhi on September 3 and submitted a memorandum seeking an increase in the FRP.

The Association has demanded that the Centre increase the FRP, which is presently fixed at ₹4,500 per tonne for sugarcane with a recovery rate of ₹10.25, ₹4,850 for a recovery rate of 11.25%, ₹5,200 for 12.25% and ₹5,550 for a recovery rate of 13.25%.

Last year, the Centre had fixed a FRP of ₹3,550 per tonne for sugarcane with a basic recovery rate of 10.25% for the year 2025-26.
