Subsidy-linked funding sought to keep poultry business viable for young entrepreneurs

The Broiler Coordination Committee (BCC), representing a majority of the State’s poultry companies, has urged the government to provide subsidy to aspiring poultry entrepreneurs on the lines of the funding extended through Horticulture Department for establishing poly house/greenhouse for vegetable cultivation.
Poultry companies in the State are concentrated in Palladam, Pollachi, and Udumalpet.
A draft proposal submitted by the BCC to Minister for Animal Husbandry S. Kamali urged the government to allocate funds on an annual basis to help youth in rural parts to pursue poultry entrepreneurship.
The poultry sector, a classified agricultural activity, was facing headwinds, warranting the government’s consideration on electricity tariff. A separate subsidised electricity tariff should be formulated for the poultry units, K. Chinnasamy, secretary, BCC, said in the proposal submitted to the Minister.
