Students stage protest over classmate’s death, allege teachers humiliated him

Students of a government higher secondary school in Nagercoil staged a protest on Saturday following the death of a fellow student, who killed himself on Friday. The students alleged that he had taken the extreme step after being verbally humiliated by teachers.
According to police, the deceased was identified as V. Kavin Jenis, 16, a class XI student from Rathinapuram. He allegedly killed himself on Friday. Following the information, Boothapandi police recovered his body and sent it for post mortem examination to Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital in Asaripallam.
A case has been registered under the section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Meanwhile, a large number of students staged a demonstration in front of the school on Saturday, alleging Kavin Jenis had died due to humiliation caused by school teachers, over a social media status, police added.
