South Coast Railway has launched the 'Swachhata Gyan Yatra' campaign, inviting school students to visit depots to learn about railway hygiene and waste management. The initiative aims to promote cleanliness and civic responsibility among the youth.
Why it matters
Educational outreach programs like this are used to foster better public cooperation in maintaining national infrastructure and sanitation standards.
School students were taken to the Narsapur and Vijayawada coaching depots and the Electric Loco Shed as part of the “Swachhata Gyan Yatra” under the Swachhata Hi Seva-2026 campaign, which began in South Coast Railway (SCoR) on Thursday (September 17, 2026).
During the visit, students were shown the coach washing lines, waste management in the railways and measures being taken to maintain hygiene in trains and on platforms, Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mohit Sonakiya said.
The DRM, who administered the Swachhata Pledge, appealed to passengers and vendors to cooperate with railway employees and the sanitation staff in keeping the premises clean.
