Strike postponed by 10 days, not withdrawn, say Gig workers’ unions

Gig workers’ unions on Saturday clarified that the indefinite strike scheduled from August 8 had not been withdrawn, but postponed by 10 days. Representatives of various unions said they would review the State government’s response to their demands and decide on the next course of action.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) and the Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum (TADF) said their demands remained unchanged. The decision to postpone the strike was taken in the interest of “giving the government an opportunity to act on the long-pending demands of gig and platform workers”, they said.
The unions said that during a meeting with Joint Commissioner of Labour, Ranga Reddy Zone, Shyamsunder Reddy, they had sought the implementation of relevant guidelines and stipulations, besides protection from unilateral fare fixation by companies. The official sought time to examine their demands, they said.
