Street vendor, their representative granted bail in MCC officials abuse case

A Mangaluru court has granted anticipatory bail to street vendor Shantha and honorary president of the District Street Vendors Association, B.K. Imtiyaz, in connection with a case accusing the two of abusing Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials during the street vendors clearance drive held on July 26.
In a complaint filed at the Mangaluru South Police Station, the MCC in-charge Zonal Commissioner, Bharathi, said that they took up the drive as per the orders of the Supreme Court and the directions of the MCC Commissioner.
During the clearance drive, Ms. Shantha and Mr. Imtiyaz allegedly prompted other street vendors to get on the vehicles involved in the drive and attempted to assault the personnel. When Ms. Bharathi and Health Inspector Deepika Shalini D’Souza intervened, the two accused abused them, tried to assault them, and obstructed the legal discharge of their duties.
