NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly strangulating her husband to death in front of his mother in east Delhi’s Rashid Market in the early hours of Thursday. The murder was committed in a fit of rage after he allegedly assaulted her over suspicion of her having an extramarital affair.The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Mustakeem, a delivery executive with a quick e-commerce company. His wife, Alisha, is a homemaker and the couple had married six months back.Police received a call at 3.52am regarding the incident. They shifted Mustakeem to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. A case was registered under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Jagatpuri police station and Alisha was nabbed from a nearby gurdwara.Alisha claimed that her husband suspected her of having an extramarital affair and had taken possession of her phone to “search for evidence” at night. This led to a fight between the couple. DCP (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena said, “In a fit of rage, she sat on his chest and strangulated him with her dupatta.”Another officer added that Mustakeem’s mother tried to intervene and stop the woman but in vain.
