Stocks slip below 5,800 as trade deficit, geopolitical risks drag

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) fell below the key 5,800 threshold on Wednesday, Sept. 23, extending its losing streak to a fourth consecutive session as investors weighed a sharply widening domestic trade deficit against escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The PSEi shed 19.42 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 5,795.14, marking its lowest closing level in nearly five months.
