Stock market crashes today: Sensex tumbles over 600 points, Nifty50 opens below 23,000
Dalal Street began the week on a negative note, with BSE Sensex declining over 500 points and NSE Nifty50 opening below the 23,000 mark. The sharp fall came as investors assessed rising crude oil prices, geopolitical cues and continued foreign selling.BSE Sensex fell 526.19 points, or 0.71%, to 73,369.55, while Nifty 50 declined 175.10 points, or 0.76%, to 22,965.40 in early trade on Monday.GIFT Nifty futures were trading at 23,100, down 88.5 points or 0.38%, signalling a muted opening for the Nifty 50. The cautious tone followed seven consecutive sessions of losses for both Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex, during which the two benchmarks fell nearly 6%. Dalal Street had already ended the previous week on a negative note with Sensex falling 399.22 points, or 0.53%, while NSE Nifty tumbled 205.9 points, or 0.88%.Crude oil remained another key concern for investors.
