Stellantis CEO urges rewards for Europe carmakers amid Chinese competition

Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa is urging European regulators to implement 'Made in Europe' incentives to protect local carmakers from rising Chinese competition. The company is currently navigating a major turnaround strategy amid declining sales and market share.
Why it matters
This reflects the growing trade tensions and protectionist pressures within the global automotive industry as Chinese EVs gain market share.
Stellantis' CEO has called on European regulators to create stronger incentives for carmakers to manufacture vehicles in the region, as it faces intensifying competition from Chinese rivals that are dominating the market.
Antonio Filosa, who has served at the helm of the automotive giant since 2025, spoke with "CNBC Conversation" ahead of the Paris Motor Show on Monday about the company's declining sales amid China's "impressive" acceleration in the European market.
"What we are supporting a lot in Europe is to establish for everybody a level playing field," Filosa said in an interview with CNBC's Charlotte Reed .
"In concrete terms, it means to work on true regulation... starting from "Made in Europe," that should be regulation that incentivizes, rewards, and protects the ones that are able to demonstrate that they design cars, engineer cars," Filosa added.
