Steenkamp calls for urgent Sport Act reform

Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture Sanet Steenkamp has called for the long-running review of Namibia’s Sport Act and sport policies to be prioritised and concluded.
She said the country needs a legislative framework that is fit for modern sport.
Steenkamp made the call yesterday at the Sports Seminar, themed ‘Unlocking Namibia’s Sport Economy’ and the launch of the Namibia Country Sport Profile at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek.
The Sport Act, 2003 has been under review since 2017, with Steenkamp saying the process must now be carried forward to a successful conclusion.
“It calls for sound frameworks, close inter-ministerial collaboration and genuine corporate partnership. It calls on us to carry forward the revision of the Sport Act, a process under review since 2017, to a successful conclusion,” she said.
