Statue honouring soldiers, farmers unveiled in Srikakulam
A new statue honoring soldiers and farmers was unveiled in Srikakulam to mark the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. The monument recognizes the district's significant contributions to both the Indian Army and the agricultural sector.

Srikakulam MLA Gondu Shankar and Indian Army’s recently retired Squadron leader Muddada Krishna Kumari jointly inaugurated Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan statue at Gandhi Mandir in Srikakulam on Friday on the occasion of birth anniversaries of both Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The statue was innovatively designed to highlight the contribution of Srikakulam to the Indian army and farm sector. Over 80% of people depend on agriculture in Srikakulam district which also produced nearly 40,000 soldiers, the highest number from Andhra Pradesh.
Half of the statue depicts a soldier (Jawan) and remaining portion represent a farmer (Kisan). On the occasion of inauguration, Mr. Shankar felicitated Ms. Krishna Kumari and lauded her involvement in Operation Sindhoor.
