Statement by the African Union Panel of Facilitators Following Consultations in Goma, DRC

An African Union panel of facilitators met with various stakeholders in Goma to discuss the peace process in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The delegation emphasized the need for political dialogue, ceasefire compliance, and the protection of civilians from violence.

A delegation of the African Union Panel of Facilitators, led by H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, former President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Deputy Chairperson of the Panel, and also comprising H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, former President of the Republic of Kenya, and H.E. Mokgweetsi Masisi, former President of the Republic of Botswana, held consultations in Goma with representatives of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism Plus (EJVM), and the Alliance Fleuve Congo/March 23 Movement (AFC/M23) on 5 October in support of the African Union-led mediation efforts for the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo Peace Process.
