State Tourism Department to launch ‘Active Karnataka’ adventure sports initiative on World Tourism Day

With the aim of providing sports enthusiasts a platform to participate in adventure sports while exploring various tourism destinations, the Karnataka Tourism Department will launch ‘Active Karnataka – Run, Ride, Surf and Explore’.

Minister of Energy and Tourism K.J. George said that the ‘Active Karnataka – Run, Ride, Surf and Explore’ is a new sports and adventure tourism initiative that would be launched on September 27 on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

The initiative aims to connect major sporting events in the State with tourism experiences, creating new visitor experiences and generating opportunities to improve local economy, the Minister said.

As part of the first phase, the Tourism Department will enter into an agreement with leading sports event organisers to link marathons, cycling events, triathlons and other endurance events with nearby tourism destinations mainly Bengaluru, Mysuru, Malnad, coastal Karnataka, Gokarna, Hampi and a few more places.
