Police are making a fresh appeal for dashcam footage after a man was flown to hospital with critical injuries following an alleged assault on the side of a North Island highway.

Officers are this evening continuing the hunt for those behind an alleged roadside attack that took place today beside State Highway 2 in Norsewood, 20km northeast of Dannevirke.

Sergeant Ryan Harrison said police and ambulance were called to reports of disorder about 10.30am.

The alleged offenders left in a vehicle and officers were still trying to locate them.

While cordons have been lifted, officers were expected to remain in the area as inquiries continued.

“The victim has suffered critical injuries and has been transported by helicopter to Wellington Hospital.

“Inquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the vehicle and those involved.”
