Share A A A Portadown, Northern Ireland: About 2000 protesters blocked a Protestant parade from marching through the Catholic area of a Northern Irish town, with both sides refusing to disperse and police keeping them apart.

The attempt to hold the parade through Portadown on Sunday (Northern Ireland time) followed the lifting of an almost 30-year ban on the contentious route, but the marchers were halted by crowds including Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O’Neill of Irish nationalists Sinn Fein.
