Standard Chartered brings spot crypto trading to Dubai FX platform

Standard Chartered has launched spot cryptocurrency trading for institutional clients on its Dubai FX platform. This expansion allows the bank to offer bitcoin and ether trading, signaling a growing institutional adoption of digital assets outside of the U.S.
Why it matters
The move highlights a growing regulatory divide between the U.S. and other global financial hubs regarding the integration of crypto into traditional banking infrastructure.
The multinational bank said the move is part of its broader digital assets strategy, which spans custody, trading and tokenization capabilities through its Corporate and Investment Bank. Standard Chartered, which has $850 billion in assets under management, became the first bank to distribute one of Hong Kong's two regulated stablecoins in August.
G-SIBs are the 30 largest banks worldwide, including JPMorgan, HSBC and Citi, that are deemed too big to fail by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and subject to the strictest capital requirements in global finance.
For years, compliance constraints at institutions like these blocked direct spot crypto execution. Standard Chartered's UAE launch signals that the barrier has broken, at least outside the US.
