Stakeholders demand say in new fisheries regulations

Stakeholders in Uganda’s fisheries sector have called for inclusive participation in formulating and enacting new fishing laws to ensure the regulations reflect realities on the ground.

The call was made on Thursday during a dialogue organized by the Katosi Women Development Trust (KWDT) in partnership with FIAN Uganda at the Protea Hotel in Kampala. The meeting brought together women from various fishing communities, lawmakers, and government officials to discuss sector reforms.

Agnes Kirabo, Executive Director of the Food Rights Alliance (FRA), urged the government to consult fishing communities thoroughly before approving new guidelines.
