The Green Saviours Association has launched the 'Srushti Green Homes' initiative in Belagavi to promote urban afforestation. The program provides free saplings and maintenance guidance to households to increase local green cover.
Why it matters
Community-led environmental initiatives are essential for biodiversity conservation and climate resilience in urban areas.
Belagavi-based NGO Green Saviours Association has launched Srushti Green Homes, an initiative to ensure community engagement in afforestation.
The initiative aims to encourage households to increase green cover by planting trees within their home premises.
Under the programme, three free saplings of fruiting, flowering and medicinal plants will be provided for planting in open soil.
More than 30 plant varieties, suitable for the Belagavi region and residential spaces, have been selected.
The Green Saviours team will assist families with species selection, planting and maintenance to ensure better survival of the saplings.
The initiative was launched at the house of Irappa Belavi of Jadhav Nagar on Sunday. Irappa Belavi became the first recipient of saplings.
Launched by environment protection activist Sameer Majli, Green Saviours has organised afforestation drive on 535 Sundays till now.
