Sreelekha’s ‘resignation’ exposes BJP’s internal troubles in Keralam, says Govindan
CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan claims that the resignation of R. Sreelekha from the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation indicates internal instability within the BJP. Local LDF leaders suggest the move reflects broader factionalism within the party.
Why it matters
Internal party conflicts can significantly impact local administrative stability and electoral outcomes in regional Indian politics.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan said here on Saturday that former IPS officer R. Sreelekha’s “resignation as a Thiruvananthapuram Corporation councillor exposed growing problems within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)”.
Mr. Govindan said some people enter politics with expectations of personal benefits and may not remain in active politics for long. He cited Ms. Sreelekha’s “resignation” as an example.
He said her decision did not appear to mark a complete withdrawal from politics and attributed it to internal differences within the BJP. Mr. Govindan said he saw no other political issue behind the move, but pointed out that the developments could lead to an administrative crisis.
