Spokane-area fires hold steady as crews face second day of red flag conditions

Three large fires burning in Spokane and Stevens counties showed no growth Friday as firefighters tested containment lines against the first of two days of critical fire weather, according to a Saturday incident update. The Old Trails, Fairview and Autumn Lane fires have burned a combined 10,332 acres since starting Aug. 1. Their causes remain under investigation. As of Saturday, the Autumn Lane Fire was 47% contained, the Old Trails Fire was 43% contained, and the Fairview Fire was 31% contained. More than 75 miles of containment line have been constructed across the fires. Crews are searching for and extinguishing pockets of heat near homes and other structures in an effort to reduce the risk of additional damage.
