Spending 10 months building the most human-like chess bot
A developer has created 'Chessbook-1', a new chess engine designed to mimic human play patterns, including time management and rating-appropriate strength. The model outperforms existing human-like bots like Maia-3 and Allie 2.0 in predicting human moves.
Why it matters
Improved human-like AI models provide better training tools for chess players by simulating realistic opponent behavior rather than perfect machine play.

The existing human-like models (Allie 2.0, Maia-3) weren't quite right for my use case, and I became a bit obsessed with making the best one.
I wanted a sparring partner that plays just like a random opponent on Lichess, at any rating and any time control. So over the last ten months I built one. It's called Chessbook-1 , and it's the bot behind the training games on Chessbook .
