The 20-year-old officer died early on Friday morning in Sydney when the patrol car she was travelling in hit a tree on inner-city Gibbons St after she and her fellow constable were called to a stolen vehicle job in nearby Glebe. Police are now closely examining the speed of the patrol car at the time of the crash. 7NEWS understands the Volkswagen Tiguan could have reached at least 150km/h in the approximately 100 metres it travelled from Redfern Police Station. Constable Lay, who was in the passenger seat, was killed on impact.
