Hours after the sudden expulsion of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig late on Friday night, political circles are abuzz with speculation over the reasons behind the move, leading to demands for clarity on the allegations against him and opening of floodgates to a meme fest targeting the former party leader.

On Saturday, Mr. Baig removed pictures of AIMIM party president Asaduddin Owaisi from his X account banner photo. He also deleted references to both the party and the Hyderabad parliamentarian from his bio. While the party had instructed him to submit his resignation to Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy, Mr. Baig’s bio continued to display “Member of Legislative Council (MLC)”.
