Special voter enrolment drive to be held in U.T., says CEO

The Election Commission of India has announced a special voter enrolment drive in the Union Territory to register eligible citizens and first-time voters. The initiative includes setting up special camps in every Assembly constituency to assist those missed during previous revision exercises.
Why it matters
This drive aims to increase democratic participation and ensure electoral rolls are accurate and inclusive of young and marginalized voters.
A special enrolment drive will be launched in the Union Territory to facilitate eligible persons who could not get themselves enrolled during the Special Intensive Revision exercise and young citizens who have become eligible electors to enrol themselves in the electoral roll, Chief Electoral Officer ASPS Ravi Prakash said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Election Department here, he said the Election Commission of India has directed States and Union Territories where SIR has been completed to conduct a special drive for the enrolment of left-out eligible electors and young/first-time eligible electors under the process of continuous updation of the electoral roll.
