Special panel needed on proposal to increase Sabah, Sarawak MPs, says minister

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Sabah and Sarawak affairs Mustapha Sakmud said discussions with the Election Commission on the proposal to increase the number of parliamentary seats in the two states are still at an early stage.

KOTA KINABALU: A special committee should be established under the technical committee of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) implementation action council to study the proposal to increase Sabah and Sarawak’s representation in Parliament.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Sabah and Sarawak affairs Mustapha Sakmud said the study would also determine a timeline for implementation of the proposal.

Mustapha said the special committee should comprise representatives from the Election Commission (EC), the legal affairs division, and the Sabah and Sarawak affairs division of the Prime Minister's Department, as well as the state governments.
