Following instructions from the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, a special investigation team headed by the Additional Superintendent of Police has been formed to strengthen the ongoing probe of the sensational Perumpathu double murder case that kept the district in boiling point for a few days in last March.
When nine bike-laden armed men in their twenties and thirties unleashed murderous attack on innocent public standing near a roadside teashop at Perumpathu village near Nanguneri on the night of March 2, two persons – differently-abled Scheduled Caste John, 42, of Indra Colony near Perumpathu and migrant labourer from Odisha D. Trinath Kata, 50, were killed on the spot with grievous multiple cut injuries.
