Special bird monitoring and ringing camp held at Puthalam salt pans

Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap inaugurated the special bird monitoring and ringing programme training camp held at Puthalam salt pans on Saturday.
The programme was organised by Tamil Nadu Forest Department, Kanniyakumari Wild Life Division and the Migratory Bird Monitoring Trust.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Prathap said the special camp has been organised to create awareness about birds travelling from the Arctic and Europe to the salt pans of the district.
The Collector emphasised the need to maintain healthy wetland habitats to help the birds replenish the energy they need for their return journey, as these wetlands serve as the feeding grounds providing worms, insects and other food sources for the birds.
