‘Speak2Us helpline has given shape to community mental health movement’
The M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation celebrated the sixth anniversary of its Speak2Us mental health helpline. The initiative, supported by the HCLFoundation, has provided psychological first aid to over 10,700 callers since its launch during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why it matters
It highlights the growing importance of community-based mental health support systems that operate outside traditional clinical settings.
Commending the volunteers of the Speak2Us helpline, M. S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCTRF) founder C. Ramasubramanian said that his long-cherished vision of a community mental health movement had taken shape through Speak2Us.
He was speaking at the sixth anniversary of the Speak2Us helpline here on Saturday.
The renowned doctor observed that as a psychiatrist he could address mental health concerns through a clinical and treatment-oriented approach, whereas Speak2Us volunteers contribute to protecting and promoting the mental health of the community through the helpline and a range of mental health promotional activities.
He appreciated the volunteers for taking mental health support beyond clinical settings and closer to the community.
Speak2Us, which can be reached at 9375493754, is a community-based mental health helpline of M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCTRF).
