Spain’s spy agency warned of mass crossings into Ceuta before border crisis
Declassified documents reveal Spain's National Intelligence Center (CNI) warned Madrid and Morocco of impending mass migrant crossings into Ceuta via social media calls and border breaches days before the July crisis. The CNI specifically alerted the Spanish government delegation and Moroccan intelligence agencies about plans to exploit Morocco's Throne Day. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, however, downplayed the warnings, stating they didn't indicate the scale of the crisis that unfolded.

The trove of 40 documents was released on Wednesday amid near-daily protests in Ceuta over the Spanish government’s handling of the crisis, as well as questions over neighbouring Morocco’s role in the events.
